As some of you might know, last month I went on a snowy vacation to Breckenridge, CO! As a Texas girl, I rarely ever see snow and have a very limited amount of clothes appropriate for that type of extreme cold weather. Luckily my friends at Sun & Ski swooped in to help me find the perfect outfit and gear to get me back on the mountain with confidence. I visited the Dallas Sun & Ski location to check out their HUGE selection of ski attire and finalize my outfit for the slopes!
Upon my arrival I was greeted by the friendliest staff who made the experience so welcoming and fun! Sun & Ski has a wide range of winter wear brands but I ended up going with mainly Spyder gear for my outfit. The quality, style and extreme warmth of the Spyder clothing won me over. My ski jacket was probably my favorite piece of my outfit. Not only is it super flattering, but the whole look of it is sleek and on trend! I love how classic my black and white outfit looked on the Breck resort mountain, not to mention slimming – even with all the layers! I would recommend sizing up in the jacket, for reference I’m wearing a size 6. I chose a slim fit ski pant that I found to be very flattering and less bulky than the traditional ones I’ve worn in the past.
You can shop my full ski outfit as you scroll down, but for now I’ll move on to my ski lessons at the Sun & Ski store in Grapevine! First of all, I had NO idea ski lessons outside of a ski resort actually existed. I’m so thankful I had the opportunity to have a 1:1 private lesson before my trip. After a 6 year hiatus from skiing, I was due for a BIG refresher. If you’re a new skier or just need some practice, I highly recommend taking ski lessons at the Grapevine Sun & Ski! After an hour long session from renowned ski instructor, Jim Chase, I felt so much more confident in my skiing ability! Once my ski outfit and lessons were complete I was more than ready to be wheels up to Breck!
Once I arrived in Breckenridge and witnessed just how cold it really was (I’m talking 10 degrees people) – I was super nervous about being cold on the mountain. My doubts were quickly diminished once I was literally on the ski lift (as it was snowing pretty hard) and felt SO warm. All of my Spyder gear I picked out truly paid off and I can’t say enough good things about the quality and warmth they provided me while I was trying not to fall down the mountain! You can find more Spyder clothing on the Sun & Ski website.
When the weather is that cold, it’s super important to layer up – I had on 3 top layers and 3 bottom and I was just fine. I received a ton of compliments on my ski jacket from other girls at the ski resort and lodge during my stay – which I thought was pretty cool since there were so many people and the fact that I stood out with my look truly says something. If you’re trying to find a fashionable ski or snowboard outfit and you are into amazing quality and customer service, I highly suggest checking out Sun & Ski! I’ll warn you that you may be overwhelmed with the vast selection – but hey, that’s never a bad thing is it?
My ski lessons definitely paid off because after a few runs I felt perfectly at ease and ready to tackle the blues! I only fell twice during my time skiing in Breck and I have to say I owe a big thanks to my instructor Jim for helping me feel more confident! If you ever visit Breck, I recommend having an après ski moment at Tbar after the slopes for a great atmosphere with delish cocktails and food!
Restaurants to try while in Breck:
Tbar – On-mountain après hot spot on Peak 8 – Try the buffalo chicken dip (trust me)
Relish – Cozy atmosphere right off main street with delicious food
Park & Main – Casual lunch spot (Try the grilled cheese & tomato basil soup)
Moe’s Original BBQ – Loved this spot! Super casual and great BBQ
Ember – More upscale with unique and tasty dishes
Blue River Bistro – Try the reverse Happy Hour 9pm-midnight (Two for one Martinis & Apps)
Crepes a la carte – An absolute MUST and worth the wait! One word: Nutella
Mi Casa – This place is also a must! It won me over with the chicken tacos and variety of salsas!
I’ve also heard great things about Hearthstone and Twist!

Snow mobiling was one of the best experiences of my life! I would recommend Colorado Back Country to anyone looking for a thrill in a gorgeous winter wonderland! The actual mountain where we rode was in Red Cliff, which is about an hour drive from Breckenridge. Luckily the company we used offered a complimentary shuttle that will give you a ride to and from wherever you’re staying in Breck. There were several times while exploring that I thought to myself, “Is this real life?” The scenery was incredible and so magical in the best possible way!
Behind the scenes of my ski lessons!
The pro Jim Chase showing me how it’s done! If you’re local in the DFW area – go see him for ski lessons!
